I Walked 5 Kilometres!

A pair of hot pink converse high top sneakers

There was a lot of cool fashions today!

Stop trying to spell check me!  I’m Canadian and the word is metre!!!!!So I finished the “Run For The Cure”.  Rusty kept me on the trail which proved a little difficult as we had a mix of runners, walkers, dogs, children and strollers for the first kilometer even though we deliberately started late to give the runners a head start.  I hate to be a grouch, but some of us are the walking wounded and are not going to bounce right back from a collision.  I don’t even want to think what would happen to a child.  Next year I am starting 10 minutes late rather than 5 and hoping for less bouncing around from the runners.

Anyway less crabbiness more Yea Haw I walked 5K!!  I have been a real drama queen about this wondering if I could finish this walk.  I resolved that I was going to bail on the race if I had any problems and that was just going to have to be good enough.  Well you know it wasn’t so bad.  Kind of thrilling to walk through the finish line like one of those pros you see on TV! I tried to do a Rocky dance but it only happened from the waist up.  I was the rusty tin man below the waist.

We only had a short stop so we could call Therese and make sure we were beating her in the race.  We accidently sent her on a wild goose chase as she had already finished the race and thought we had too and were just hanging out.  Oops!  She and Sharon figured it out eventually and came to walk us in for the last kilometer.  Those two are really good sports!

Man smiling with two thumbs up

Thumbs Up Team Morning Maniacs!

Next year I hope to have team Fat Chicks and we can try to get more chunky guys and gals out there.  I didn’t see anybody carrying more that an extra 50 pounds out there.  There were a lot of people there and I know there are plenty obese people that can walk 5K so maybe I just didn’t see them and they were there.  Can you imagine a team of all obese people?  That would be great!  If that team exists let me know ‘cause I want to join.  Doesn’t even have to be in Toronto where I live.  I can travel for that!

Anyway I want to thank Sharon, Rusty, Therese and team Morning Maniacs for a great day!!  Sign me up for the next 5K ‘cause now I know I can do it!

To my trainer I say “yes I put ice on my knee!  A pint of Ice Cream”!

Don’t get all excited.  I’m not a big ice cream eater.  You had to figure that there had to be one junk food I was not addicted too.

  1. Cindy,
OK, I think that you are amazing. Maybe it was the witty complaints pre-race that made me wonder if you could do it but it only make your accomplishment more spectacular. (was that your plan?) I did my grousing after the 5 k walk after being buffeted around my unapologic runners who were too busy gabbing with friends to notice that they ran into me. It was great to be part of the Sharon team. But you were the best of us all.

  2. Next year we get some big hairy bouncer types to walk behind us as a moving wall!!!
The pre-race nerves was the real deal and for what! I worry too much.
I was the best of us all? … Hmmm Why yes I was! Thanks for noticing! 😉

  3. I am so proud of you today my friend, you did yourself a great service by not only deciding to do this, but to show up and and actually complete the whole 5k, well that was just amazing…you keep on going girlfriend 🙂 you and Rusty were certainly a great asset to the amazing morning maniacs, and I am so honored to have been a part of the team

    • Congratulations Cindy. You Rock!
I am not surprised that you completed the walk. Once you put your mind to something, everyone else better get out of the way.

  4. I saw a Walk from Obesity, that is being held in Honolulu in December. I’m just saying..I case you’d like company, I could be persuaded to go on that one
