Olympic Athlete Holley Mangold will be on Biggest Loser

You may recall I wrote an article about Holley called “She’s 350 Pounds Olympics Bound”.  Holley is a weight lifter and although she had no expectation of placing in the Olympics she did secure 10th place.  She says she is joining Biggest Loser as a contestant because she feels her weight was one of the reasons she didn’t place higher even though in the past she felt it was a benefit in her sport.  She had considered retiring from the sport but has changed her mind and wants to compete in the next Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.  In order to join Biggest Loser she was forced to pull out of the Pan American Championships and the World University Games because of scheduling conflicts.

Fork Chew Chew Chew … Down

In yesterday’s article about the magic fork Crabby McSlacker commented that “a hint to slow the heck down when eating would probably be helpful too.”  To which I thought I’ve read them all and I am not chewing my meat 15 times until it is sawdust in my mouth.  Then I couldn’t come up with any other rules for slowing down your eating, so I looked it up on the internet.  Turns out, there was a couple ideas that I didn’t reject outright with an imperious sniff and downward pointing thumb.

Please Sir Can I Have Some More!

Hey there folks!  Getting my second wind under my sails!  Yeah!  Maybe that morning coffee has finally kicked in.  Had a major mid-day energy dip.  Can’t imagine why! I was given permission, no ordered if you want to know the truth to brag today on my blog about my amazing performance this morning! Uh Huh!  Thanks Fredelle! This “I can do a little more rule” is really powerful stuff.  Last week my trainer suggested that the reason I have been kicking butt lately was that I had two weeks of 7AM sessions with him instead of 6AM.  Back to 6AM sessions this morning so when I met him I immediately threw down the challenge. “Let’s see if it’s the time or my awesomeness that has made the difference”.  Well I had to do my best after that arrogance!  We had a couple hiccups when I got distracted or let a negative thought roll through my brain.  My trainer got me back on course by reminding me to focus.  Well when it was all over we both agreed that was my best workout since I was injured a year ago.  What was the difference?  I knew I could do it!  I … Continue reading

How to Install Pelvic Flooring

It’s time for another Squeamish Moments Session with Cindy!  Yeah!!  I feel like Crusty the Clown, Hey, Hey,Hey!!  Any guys reading this can leave now.  This article is about girl stuff!! You would think I was one of those kids that brought her snake to school or ate earth worms.  Nope I ran away screaming from that kid but I always looked from a safe distance.  This article is kind of like that. I was reading http://www.curvygirlguide.com/health-2/how-to-install-pelvic-flooring/  and since I loved her title I used it.  I steal all my best work. She recommends Kegel exercises to strengthen your pelvic floor so that you can do jumping jacks without peeing on yourself.  Hey, statistics say that 1 in 3 woman who have gone through child birth have this condition so don’t act like you don’t know what I am talking about.   The young gals can learn something here as well.  Imagine the fun when you have developed strong pelvic muscles and can shoot out baby number one alien style.  If you don’t manage to scare the doctor I’m sure any family that has been invited will provide the desired reaction.

She’s 350 Pounds and Olympics-Bound

My good friend Havva (she says her name is Eve in Hebrew) was kind enough to send me an article about Holley Mangold (Link to article).  She will be lifting weights  in the Olympics this summer and weighs in at 350 lbs which is not unusually big for this competition.  The story is partially sensationalism over her size but it also shows the level of sacrifice she is willing to endure in order to compete.  It particularly struck a cord with me because she has no expectation of winning, she only wants to experience the joy of doing her best.  That is very refreshing when it often seems like we live in a world were first place and perfect is the only measure that counts.  Unfortunately I then read a few of the comments on the story.  I should know better!  The comments section of any article is often filled with ugly refuse that is clogging up peoples’ minds.  I like to think that they are cleaning out bits of whatever it is that is rotting in their brains every time I read a critical comment.  As comments go the ones attached to this article were very tame.  My complaint is … Continue reading
