It Ain’t High School Gym Class

At one time you were a 17 year old high school geek praying it wasn’t going to be square dancing day or yoga day or gymnastics day in gym class.  You hoped you were not picked last for team sports and that you were invisible when changing in the locker room.  Most people had the same experience in gym class.  There was something you were not good at and the potential for embarrassing debacles was high. That’s right you have spent years erasing that 17 year old twit from your memory.  You’re a responsible adult that others look to for guidance.  You don’t stammer and stutter your way through a meeting.  You are clear, concise and effective.  So how come that 17 year old is the one making your decisions about fitness?  I can’t join a health club! I won’t fit in!  I won’t know what to do!  People will look at me and laugh behind my back!

Getting Rid of Heartburn

Chris Kresser is a blogger acupuncturist and follower of Eastern Spirituality and medicine.  He has written a five part series of article about digestive health (Click here for article).  I have suffered from severe heartburn for about 3 years.  It took a while but I was finally diagnosed with a hiatus hernia this year.  When I read Chris Kresser’s article I became very angry.  He says that if it was true that heart burn was caused by too much acid in your stomach then teenagers would have terrible heartburn as they have the most acid.  Once people get past middle age their acid production is reduced.  He says that the reason people get heartburn is because of this reduced production of acid.  Food is not digested as quickly and there is a build up of pressure in the stomach forcing acid up into the esophagus causing heartburn.  He says that many heartburn treatments will give relief at first by reducing acid but they suppress future acid production making the problem worse long term and making the patient dependent on medicine on a daily basis.  He says that is big pharma’s plan.  Keeping customers dependent on their product.  This all sounds … Continue reading

Moanday Link Storm Aug. 20 2012

Moandays are always such brain foggy days.  It is hard to get anything going.  I painted my toenails last night in the dark.  They look like some 6 year olds fingerpainting project.  Today is a good day for mindlessly pushing data around.  Maybe if I am lucky the right answer will pop out the other end of this computer by accident. Here is a link to Jack Sh*t Gettin’ Fit.  People seem to like his web site.  It is certainly unique.  http://jackfit.blogspot.ca/ Here is another really good site particularly if you are a meat eater. Mark’s Daily Apple  This article is about high fat diets relationship to Type 2 Diabetes.  Scientists used non-foods on mice to make coclusions about humans, pretty much guarenteeing they got the results they were looking for.  Urgh!! http://www.marksdailyapple.com/does-a-high-fat-diet-cause-type-2-diabetes/#axzz241eBxx62 Ranchers turn to feeding cattles old candy instead of expensive corn. http://www.theweathernetwork.com/news/storm_watch_stories3&stormfile=Rancher_turns_to_candy_for_a_sweet_solution_to_high_feed_prices_16_08_2012?ref=ccbox_weather_topstories

How to Install Pelvic Flooring

It’s time for another Squeamish Moments Session with Cindy!  Yeah!!  I feel like Crusty the Clown, Hey, Hey,Hey!!  Any guys reading this can leave now.  This article is about girl stuff!! You would think I was one of those kids that brought her snake to school or ate earth worms.  Nope I ran away screaming from that kid but I always looked from a safe distance.  This article is kind of like that. I was reading http://www.curvygirlguide.com/health-2/how-to-install-pelvic-flooring/  and since I loved her title I used it.  I steal all my best work. She recommends Kegel exercises to strengthen your pelvic floor so that you can do jumping jacks without peeing on yourself.  Hey, statistics say that 1 in 3 woman who have gone through child birth have this condition so don’t act like you don’t know what I am talking about.   The young gals can learn something here as well.  Imagine the fun when you have developed strong pelvic muscles and can shoot out baby number one alien style.  If you don’t manage to scare the doctor I’m sure any family that has been invited will provide the desired reaction.

Oxytocin Could Boost Social Sensitivity

I was doing a little research for an article titled “Sex will kill you! 100% Guaranteed” and I came upon an interesting study on Oxytocin. The study is titled “The Oxytocin enhances pupil dilation and sensitivity to ‘hidden’ emotional expressions.”  Here’s the link. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22648957 and here’s a quote “the hormone may act on the brain by literally focusing visual attention on important social information and making it seem more distinct. But the effect was most pronounced in people who started out with difficulty reading social cues.”

Moanday Link Storm Aug. 13, 2012

Well it really is a moan day.  My tummy hurts again.   Keep eating things on the No No list and it is always the worst in the morning when I wake up.  Blah!! This link is to Chris Lawhorn, the Resident DJ at Marie Claire magazine.  Each month, he reviews 300-400 new singles to find the best new music for a workout. His picks are organized here, according to their beats per minute. http://www.diet.com/dietblogs/read_blog_expert.php?uid=1185612 Here is a link to Kathy Patalsky’s Healthy. Happy. Naked Hot Tub!

Bet this title got your attention.  I wonder if I can get my site on a banned list this way. Todays topic is sleep.  Keep reading long enough and I will get to the hot tub.  I have had trouble sleeping for more than 30 years.  What do I do about it?  Well for years I did nothing.  I generally felt OK during the day with 4 to 6 hours sleep so I didn’t worry about it.  Generally I fall asleep at my usual time just fine and wake up 2 to 3 hours later to go to the bathroom.  This is when the problem begins.  I am wide awake.  I usually read for 2 to 3 hours and then sleep lightly for another 2 hours.  Again I am wide awake and running out of time to get more sleep.  If it is the weekend I can read for a few hours and take another 1 hour nap.  If it is a weekday there is no more sleep.

Just One Thing

I have to say I love a good tool!  Not the latest 12-in-1 wrench, knife, corkscrew … tool although I love that kind as well.  No I’m not talking about THAT guy at work either.  I mean an idea that can make it a bit easier to get things done. When I first started changing my life and going to the gym.  I used a tool.  I called it “Just One Thing”.  You see it is easier for me to deal with challenges if I simplify it.  Each day I told myself that I had to do “Just One Thing”.  Is the suspense killing you yet?
