Chris Kresser is a blogger acupuncturist and follower of Eastern Spirituality and medicine. He has written a five part series of article about digestive health (Click here for article). I have suffered from severe heartburn for about 3 years. It took a while but I was finally diagnosed with a hiatus hernia this year. When I read Chris Kresser’s article I became very angry. He says that if it was true that heart burn was caused by too much acid in your stomach then teenagers would have terrible heartburn as they have the most acid. Once people get past middle age their acid production is reduced. He says that the reason people get heartburn is because of this reduced production of acid. Food is not digested as quickly and there is a build up of pressure in the stomach forcing acid up into the esophagus causing heartburn. He says that many heartburn treatments will give relief at first by reducing acid but they suppress future acid production making the problem worse long term and making the patient dependent on medicine on a daily basis. He says that is big pharma’s plan. Keeping customers dependent on their product. This all sounds very familiar to me. I was using increasingly expensive heartburn medicine on a daily basis. Changing my diet was not working. Was my hernia a result of pressure on my stomach caused by low acid production? Continue reading
How to reduce the number of times you tip over!
Proper footwear discussed in Part One
Get a walking stick. Some people have two walking sticks or ski poles or poles specifically for hiking. I have one walking stick and it has a little shock absorber (cool!) but no chrome or racing stripes (bummer!) I am too dangerous with two sticks. I will start adjusting something or lean over to pick something up and those two poles get waving around in the air. Either that or a drop one and it slides down a hill. I am not proud of it but I am lazy so I generally pull out my helpless and distressed female act at these times and get somebody else to go get my stick for me. Continue reading
Moandays are always such brain foggy days. It is hard to get anything going. I painted my toenails last night in the dark. They look like some 6 year olds fingerpainting project. Today is a good day for mindlessly pushing data around. Maybe if I am lucky the right answer will pop out the other end of this computer by accident.
Here is another really good site particularly if you are a meat eater. Mark’s Daily Apple This article is about high fat diets relationship to Type 2 Diabetes. Scientists used non-foods on mice to make coclusions about humans, pretty much guarenteeing they got the results they were looking for. Urgh!!
It’s time for another Squeamish Moments Session with Cindy! Yeah!! I feel like Crusty the Clown, Hey, Hey,Hey!! Any guys reading this can leave now. This article is about girl stuff!!
You would think I was one of those kids that brought her snake to school or ate earth worms. Nope I ran away screaming from that kid but I always looked from a safe distance. This article is kind of like that.
I was reading http://www.curvygirlguide.com/health-2/how-to-install-pelvic-flooring/ and since I loved her title I used it. I steal all my best work.
She recommends Kegel exercises to strengthen your pelvic floor so that you can do jumping jacks without peeing on yourself. Hey, statistics say that 1 in 3 woman who have gone through child birth have this condition so don’t act like you don’t know what I am talking about. The young gals can learn something here as well. Imagine the fun when you have developed strong pelvic muscles and can shoot out baby number one alien style. If you don’t manage to scare the doctor I’m sure any family that has been invited will provide the desired reaction. Continue reading
I was doing a little research for an article titled “Sex will kill you! 100% Guaranteed” and I came upon an interesting study on Oxytocin.
The study is titled “The Oxytocin enhances pupil dilation and sensitivity to ‘hidden’ emotional expressions.” Here’s the link.
and here’s a quote
“the hormone may act on the brain by literally focusing visual attention on important social information and making it seem more distinct. But the effect was most pronounced in people who started out with difficulty reading social cues.”
I know what you’re thinking. This title is not another case of my poor spelling or my latest effort to try cooking. As If!!!! Sheesh! No, this is an attack of the Evil Veganators, members of the Animal Liberation Front (ALF), the Greenaholics. Yep, their diabolical plan is to make the thought of eating chicken … well you know … Uhmmm … Really bad!! Bad!! BAD!!
OK, I had my fun, now the warning.
WARNING: If you plan to continue eating chicken ever again or you have a weak stomach or are eating a chicken finger right now, STOP!!!!! Do not read this article! It is disgusting!! Continue reading
Well it really is a moan day. My tummy hurts again. Keep eating things on the No No list and it is always the worst in the morning when I wake up. Blah!!
This link is to Chris Lawhorn, the Resident DJ at Marie Claire magazine. Each month, he reviews 300-400 new singles to find the best new music for a workout. His picks are organized here, according to their beats per minute.
Here is a link to Kathy Patalsky’s Healthy. Happy. Life website. She is a vegan chef and this is her top 20 recipes for 2011. Yeah I know I don’t cook and have not tried any of these recipes but things can change.
OK I am so immature! The visuals that come to my mind if I had this in my house make me smile. I don’t doubt that they are right, but well euwwh!
USA News rated 25 diets using a panel of 22 health experts including nutritionists and specialists in diabetes, heart health, human behavior, and weight loss. I checked into he experts and they look legit.
I was surprised at the results of the evaluation. The Paleo diet came in dead last. Atkins didn’t do very well either. They were downgraded mostly for being hard to follow and although you may get short term results they didn’t work as well long term. I see a lot of people that have been on the Paleo diet for a while and love it so that surprised me.
You know what diet did well that surprised me. SLIMFAST!!!!! Ok I guess it is easy but isn’t that just eating chemicals? You can’t live on that stuff can you? Jenny Craig did very well and Nutrisystem did OK. I assumed they would be equal and again to much fake food.
Anyway check it out for yourself.
