Moanday Link Storm Sept. 17, 2012

Another Moanday and this one is a real moaner. They have been letting people go around work and not the “we can’t afford you any more” kind of lay off. These were the farewell letter to an employee and then their replacement arrives the next day.  To be fair, I don’t really work with these people too much so obviously there was more going on than I knew but it is still unnerving! So today I am going to provide you with fitness web sites that are all about teamwork and helping each other as a community.

Ahh!  We are enjoying are first cool days leading into fall.  This is my favourite time of the year.  I am not a fan of being hot and sweaty every time I leave the house.  In the fall you can go out for a long walk and never get over-heated.  The air is generally not smelly because somebodies garbage is baking in the sun.  Where I live fall seems to be a sunny windy time of the year and I am just fine with that.  Also big plus I usually sleep well with the cooler temperatures. Sigh!  Now I see the list of links I wanted to share today and it just doesn’t fit how I feel right now.  Neither does the image I have planned for this post.  Usually I need a lot of coffee on Moanday morning.  Not this morning! Our first article is from Huffington Post’s Soul Talk series.  “Who do you hate?”  This is one of those topics of which there are many that make me realize I must be different.  I have only hated two people in my entire life.  One of those only lasted about a week before the person was forgotten.  You really … Continue reading

Moanday Link Storm Sept. 3 2012

Well somebody is going to get their butt kicked today.  Yep!  I’m cranky.  Today was the last swim before the pool I use is closed down for maintenance for 2 weeks and it was the worst swim I have ever had!  I was kicked.  I had some kid grab me and scare me and I had a set of oblivous people bouncing around running into people.  I just kept turning around and getting out of their way.  In the end I only swam for an hour instead of two.  Originally this rant was about a page long.  You can thank me now for erasing most of it. Anyway today we are linking only to snarky, cranky articles cause that’s the way I roll.

Moandays are always such brain foggy days.  It is hard to get anything going.  I painted my toenails last night in the dark.  They look like some 6 year olds fingerpainting project.  Today is a good day for mindlessly pushing data around.  Maybe if I am lucky the right answer will pop out the other end of this computer by accident. Here is a link to Jack Sh*t Gettin’ Fit.  People seem to like his web site.  It is certainly unique.  http://jackfit.blogspot.ca/ Here is another really good site particularly if you are a meat eater. Mark’s Daily Apple  This article is about high fat diets relationship to Type 2 Diabetes.  Scientists used non-foods on mice to make coclusions about humans, pretty much guarenteeing they got the results they were looking for.  Urgh!! http://www.marksdailyapple.com/does-a-high-fat-diet-cause-type-2-diabetes/#axzz241eBxx62 Ranchers turn to feeding cattles old candy instead of expensive corn. http://www.theweathernetwork.com/news/storm_watch_stories3&stormfile=Rancher_turns_to_candy_for_a_sweet_solution_to_high_feed_prices_16_08_2012?ref=ccbox_weather_topstories

Well it really is a moan day.  My tummy hurts again.   Keep eating things on the No No list and it is always the worst in the morning when I wake up.  Blah!! This link is to Chris Lawhorn, the Resident DJ at Marie Claire magazine.  Each month, he reviews 300-400 new singles to find the best new music for a workout. His picks are organized here, according to their beats per minute. http://www.diet.com/dietblogs/read_blog_expert.php?uid=1185612 Here is a link to Kathy Patalsky’s Healthy. Happy. Life website.  She is a vegan chef and this is her top 20 recipes for 2011.  Yeah I know I don’t cook and have not tried any of these recipes but things can change. http://kblog.lunchboxbunch.com/2011/12/my-top-20-posts-of-2011.html OK I am so immature!  The visuals that come to my mind if I had this in my house make me smile.  I don’t doubt that they are right, but well euwwh! http://www.naturesplatform.com/

Bluesday Link Storm

This is the first day of the work week for Canadians so instead of Moanday Links Storm we are having a Bluesday Link Storm! If you are looking for unique fitness clothing, shoes, fitness equipment, music, nutrition and food or  new exercise ideas you may want to go to the CanFit Pro Consumer Fitness and Wellness show at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre on Saturday, August 18th from 8:30AM to 5:30PM for free.  Just follow the link below and on the upper right it says Free Ticket.  Fill out the form and bring it with you to the show.  I have been in the past and had a great time.  I was in love with the yoga wear on sale.  Sorry they generally only go up to size large.  The fitness and dance demonstrations are amazing.  You can participate in the demonstrations just be aware that most people that are at this event are fitness pros so they are going to be able to follow along with little instruction.  There is a lot of fitness equipment to try on for size and talks by your favorite fitness personalities. http://www.canfitpro.com/en/trade-show The Huffington Post has a great on-line series of article called Becoming … Continue reading

Moanday Link Storm

Moanday instead of Monday Ha!!  That was an accident but it is so true.  My mother was kind enough to pick out my spelling and grammar mistakes on the site this weekend so I could correct them.  I wonder what she will make of this.  I blame my spelling problems on the fact that I can never find my reading glasses so I am just guessing what is actually getting written on this page. So on MOANdays I am going to try to make a habit of posting links to interesting articles on the web. A friend is having some weight loss success after years of amazing discipline with little result using this web site http://www.myfitnesspal.com/  She has been able to increase her calories and still lose weight.  She is similar to many older woman in that her metabolism has slowed down and she has a persistent 20 Lbs stuck on her tummy and hips. There is an interesting series on HBO called The Weight of The Nation about obesity.  I know you don’t get HBO.  Not a problem you can watch the series on-line even up here in Canada at http://theweightofthenation.hbo.com/ Here is an article Pam from www.FatGirls4Fitness.com sent me on the … Continue reading
