Chris Kresser is a blogger acupuncturist and follower of Eastern Spirituality and medicine. He has written a five part series of article about digestive health (Click here for article). I have suffered from severe heartburn for about 3 years. It took a while but I was finally diagnosed with a hiatus hernia this year. When I read Chris Kresser’s article I became very angry. He says that if it was true that heart burn was caused by too much acid in your stomach then teenagers would have terrible heartburn as they have the most acid. Once people get past middle age their acid production is reduced. He says that the reason people get heartburn is because of this reduced production of acid. Food is not digested as quickly and there is a build up of pressure in the stomach forcing acid up into the esophagus causing heartburn. He says that many heartburn treatments will give relief at first by reducing acid but they suppress future acid production making the problem worse long term and making the patient dependent on medicine on a daily basis. He says that is big pharma’s plan. Keeping customers dependent on their product. This all sounds … Continue reading
It’s time for another Squeamish Moments Session with Cindy! Yeah!! I feel like Crusty the Clown, Hey, Hey,Hey!! Any guys reading this can leave now. This article is about girl stuff!! You would think I was one of those kids that brought her snake to school or ate earth worms. Nope I ran away screaming from that kid but I always looked from a safe distance. This article is kind of like that. I was reading http://www.curvygirlguide.com/health-2/how-to-install-pelvic-flooring/ and since I loved her title I used it. I steal all my best work. She recommends Kegel exercises to strengthen your pelvic floor so that you can do jumping jacks without peeing on yourself. Hey, statistics say that 1 in 3 woman who have gone through child birth have this condition so don’t act like you don’t know what I am talking about. The young gals can learn something here as well. Imagine the fun when you have developed strong pelvic muscles and can shoot out baby number one alien style. If you don’t manage to scare the doctor I’m sure any family that has been invited will provide the desired reaction.
I was doing a little research for an article titled “Sex will kill you! 100% Guaranteed” and I came upon an interesting study on Oxytocin. The study is titled “The Oxytocin enhances pupil dilation and sensitivity to ‘hidden’ emotional expressions.” Here’s the link. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22648957 and here’s a quote “the hormone may act on the brain by literally focusing visual attention on important social information and making it seem more distinct. But the effect was most pronounced in people who started out with difficulty reading social cues.”
Moanday instead of Monday Ha!! That was an accident but it is so true. My mother was kind enough to pick out my spelling and grammar mistakes on the site this weekend so I could correct them. I wonder what she will make of this. I blame my spelling problems on the fact that I can never find my reading glasses so I am just guessing what is actually getting written on this page. So on MOANdays I am going to try to make a habit of posting links to interesting articles on the web. A friend is having some weight loss success after years of amazing discipline with little result using this web site http://www.myfitnesspal.com/ She has been able to increase her calories and still lose weight. She is similar to many older woman in that her metabolism has slowed down and she has a persistent 20 Lbs stuck on her tummy and hips. There is an interesting series on HBO called The Weight of The Nation about obesity. I know you don’t get HBO. Not a problem you can watch the series on-line even up here in Canada at http://theweightofthenation.hbo.com/ Here is an article Pam from www.FatGirls4Fitness.com sent me on the … Continue reading
Bet this title got your attention. I wonder if I can get my site on a banned list this way. Todays topic is sleep. Keep reading long enough and I will get to the hot tub. I have had trouble sleeping for more than 30 years. What do I do about it? Well for years I did nothing. I generally felt OK during the day with 4 to 6 hours sleep so I didn’t worry about it. Generally I fall asleep at my usual time just fine and wake up 2 to 3 hours later to go to the bathroom. This is when the problem begins. I am wide awake. I usually read for 2 to 3 hours and then sleep lightly for another 2 hours. Again I am wide awake and running out of time to get more sleep. If it is the weekend I can read for a few hours and take another 1 hour nap. If it is a weekday there is no more sleep.
