I saw a quote today that helped define for me a phenomenon I have seen all my life but did not recognize. I would ask a rather sheltered friend of mine what he believed about this or that and he often replied that he was raised to believe one thing or another. I was always shocked that he had not questioned what he was taught. He was not a fan of reading or research and he was not really that interested in the other points of view. He had a set of answers that worked in the life he led and that was good enough for him. Later on in my life I began to run into people that had put a great deal of time into research of various kinds. When I would express my opinion on an area they felt they knew a lot about some people would talk over me and drowned me out in order to give me their expert opinion on the topic. Sometimes they were so busy giving their opinion that they actually failed to correctly identify the topic of my original conversation. I would be frustrated but also gave their argument greater weight because … Continue reading
Sorry folks I have been busy lately and have not had the time to write. Hey, this could be a win win! I get to slack off and you get links to articles far superior to what I would put in the time to write. Life Hacker has done a series of articles on common body, food and exercise myths debunked. These articles are not the usual type of myths like eggs will raise your cholesterol. No they won’t! Yes they will! That goes on forever in the media. These are some of the more off the wall myths. 10 Stubborn Body Myths That Just Won’t Die, Debunked by Science 10 Stubborn Food Myths That Just Won’t Die, Debunked by Science 10 More Stubborn Food Myths That Just Won’t Die, Debunked by Science 10 Stubborn Exercise Myths that Won’t Die, Debunked by Science
I have been tired the last few months and it has been hard to put a good effort into my workouts. Quite frankly I have been just coming in and hoping the energy is there or it will show up at some point. There is no mystery about why I am messed up. My sleep pattern is off and I am trying to lose weight and therefore am eating fewer calories. In the past I have often felt more energized with fewer calories actually I have often felt that way with less sleep. Yep I know I’m weird! So what can I do to recharge and become more alert right now this minute so that I can put in a good showing?
Well somebody is going to get their butt kicked today. Yep! I’m cranky. Today was the last swim before the pool I use is closed down for maintenance for 2 weeks and it was the worst swim I have ever had! I was kicked. I had some kid grab me and scare me and I had a set of oblivous people bouncing around running into people. I just kept turning around and getting out of their way. In the end I only swam for an hour instead of two. Originally this rant was about a page long. You can thank me now for erasing most of it. Anyway today we are linking only to snarky, cranky articles cause that’s the way I roll.
Dear Disney, I am very disappointed in you. When you came out with that Habit Heros attraction at Epcot with the associated game, I figured you were just misguided. You tried to teach children about healthy habits and you just stepped a little lot too far into shaming them. It was a mistake to have animated fitness super heros Will Power and Callie Stenics teach villain Lead Bottom the error of his ways. Particularly as Lead Bottom’s bouncing tummy was played for laughs and ridicule. The idea did not go over well and was cancelled. I thought that would be the end of it. Disney learned its lesson. Next thing you know Disney is launching the Designer Villains limited edition dolls and make-up products. Well look at this, obese villain Ursula from The Littlest Mermaid has lost a lot of weight. These things happen. OK, I wouldn’t have thought Disney would want to get burned twice interesting.
I came in at the end of a conversation when I heard this line. Conversation dried up after that so it must have been juicy! Anyway, it got me thinking and not about the Avril Lavigne song! When you were a child life was simple. You asked John if he wanted to play if he said no you went and asked Barbara or Bill until you had somebody to play with. John was forgotten from your mind the second you walked away. Unless of course John had a cool new bike and what you really wanted was to ride his bike. That’s another story that ended in a bloody lip. Which was really cool too as I recall!
Moandays are always such brain foggy days. It is hard to get anything going. I painted my toenails last night in the dark. They look like some 6 year olds fingerpainting project. Today is a good day for mindlessly pushing data around. Maybe if I am lucky the right answer will pop out the other end of this computer by accident. Here is a link to Jack Sh*t Gettin’ Fit. People seem to like his web site. It is certainly unique. http://jackfit.blogspot.ca/ Here is another really good site particularly if you are a meat eater. I have to say I love a good tool! Not the latest 12-in-1 wrench, knife, corkscrew … tool although I love that kind as well. No I’m not talking about THAT guy at work either. I mean an idea that can make it a bit easier to get things done. When I first started changing my life and going to the gym. I used a tool. I called it “Just One Thing”. You see it is easier for me to deal with challenges if I simplify it. Each day I told myself that I had to do “Just One Thing”. Is the suspense killing you yet?
